Welcome

I’m a Los Angeles-based college essay coach, journalist and writing teacher with one foot in the realm of college access (I have a certificate in college counseling from UCLA) and the other in the world of writing (I hold a Masters degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism.) I was a reporter, columnist and editor for 25 years; I wrote for The New York Times, USA Today, CBSMoneyWatch, Parenting and many other outlets.

I combine the best of both worlds: I know what colleges want to see in essays, and I know how to help students identify and write the personal stories that only they can write. My eye for a story and how to tell it serves me well in guiding students to produce compelling, attention-getting work.

Helping put low-income students on the path to college is also part of my world. I teach and run workshops for a number of educational non-profits as a community service.

A native Philadelphian turned New Yorker turned  Californian, I tend to bloom where planted. I invite you to find out more about my work.

Thank you for visiting!
